Enhancements: The HP Printing Diagnostic Utility is created to diagnose and fix many common issues preventing printing from the computer. It works for many HP printing devices. Follow the on-screen instructions to run the utility. Examples of issues this utility will address:

• Connection Issue: The utility will check that the selected printer is connected and powered.

• Spooler Service Issue: The utility will check that the print spooler service is running and restart the service, if necessary.

• Purge Spooler Issue: The utility will check if the print queue is empty and will clear it, if necessary.

• Printer Status Issue: The utility will check if the print status is offline or paused and will change the status to online or resume, if necessary.

• Device Manager Issue: The utility will check for cautioned entries in the device manager. In order to fix the issue, the utility will force a plu and play re-scan of the device manager.

The signs of print "Cartridge Compatibility" issues when the PSC is powered on are:
The unit's "Check Print Cartridge" light blinks.
The unit's "Check Paper" light is off.
When running Status from the HP Director of Display Status from the HP task tray icon, this message shows up: "The color [or black] print cartridge detected is the wrong type".
If your HP PSC 1100, 1200 or 1300 series unit exhibits all three of these signs, verify your print cartridges are installed correctly. If the problem persists, install this software to fix this issue.
Installation Instructions for Windows 98, Windows 98SE and Windows ME Operating Systems
Please have your PSC 1100, 1200 or 1300 series software CD available. In some circumstances you may be required to re-insert the CD after the installation completes.
Download the file "HpCartridgeCompatibilityWin9x_v2.exe" to a local hard drive. Make note where (in which folder) the file gets copied.
The hp all-in-one software for the PSC 1100, 1200 or 1300 series must be installed on your PC before installing this firmware update. The PSC 1100, 1200 or 1300 series must also be connected to your PC and turned on before proceeding.
Locate the file "HpCartridgeCompatibilityWin9x_v2.exe" on your hard drive and double-click the file to launch the installer. Follow the onscreen instructions to install the utility on your computer's desktop.
Once this is complete you will see the "HP Cartridge Compatibility Utility" icon on your computer's desktop
Double click the icon to launch the utility. Carefully read and follow the instructions to execute the utility.
Once the utility has executed your printer may print out a self-test or alignment page.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
In the unlikely event of a system or program crash simply press the On/Resume button on the printer and re-run the utility.
