Mac OS X v10.5 'Leopard' customers - the latest HP driver software for this printer is built into Leopard. You do not need to download or reinstall any HP software.

HP Printer Setup Instructions for the New Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard
If you're updating from Mac OS X v10.2, v10.3, or v10.4 to new Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard:
USB connection: If your HP printer is connected via USB, the Leopard OS install will automatically update your printer queue with the latest HP driver.
Network connection: If your HP printer is connected via Ethernet or Wireless network, the Leopard install will automatically delete all networked printer queues. After install you'll need to Open System Preferences, Print & Fax, to add your printer and create a new HP printer queue.
Bonjour: If you have only one printer queue that was created via Bonjour, including printer connected to USB port on Airport Extreme/Express Base Station, this printer queue should be automatically recreated as part of the Leopard OS install.
Note: this process only works if there is just one printer queue. If there are multiple printer queues, please refer to step B, above.
New Mac with Mac OS X v10.5 or a clean install of the Leopard OS:
USB connection: Make sure your printer is turned on and connected. a printer queue should be automatically created for your HP printer.
Network printers: After install you'll need to Open System Preferences, Print & Fax, to add your printer and create a new HP printer queue.
Apple Software Updates: HP drivers will be available via Apple Software updates. Please note that the Apple software update process for HP drivers only applies to USB connected printers.
USB connection: You must have a printer connected via USB or a previous USB HP printer queue to enable software updates to download the latest HP printer driver for your specific HP printer.
Network connection: You must install the HP driver set from the Leopard DVD to get the latest HP driver set. Apple software update process will not be able to find and download the driver for your specific networked printer queue without it.

The directory these files are extracted to will have a similar name to the printer model that was downloaded (i.e., c:\lj5200). However, you can change the path and directory name at the time of extracting the file.
Open the Printers Window (Click Start-Settings-Printers).
Update the printer if it was previously installed
Right click on the printer and select Properties from the pop menu.
On the General tab, select New Driver.
Click on the Warning Box that pops up.
A printer listing box will appear. Select Have Disk.
Another box Install from Disk appears.
Click the Browse to locate the expanded files directory (i.e., c:\lj5200).
Click on the file ending with .inf .
Click Open and then Okay and let files install.
Add the printer if it hasn't been installed yet.
Click Add New Printer
Follow the instructions of the Add Printer Wizard.

PURPOSE of the Readme file
The Readme file provides specific installation instructions and other information you should know before you perform a Print Controller firmware update for your LJ5200/5200L Series printer. Installation instructions are provided for Single or Multiple Printer Updates.
The file provides specific installation and troubleshooting information. For additional information on the device features, refer to the online user guide found on the Windows Printing System Installer CD-ROM that came with your printer.
What is included in a Remote Firmware Update (RFU)?
The HP LJ5200 Remote Firmware contains firmware for the printer, embedded JetDirect (if applicable), all HP paper handling accessories used with the device and fax accessories (if applicable) in one convenient download file. When the Remote Firmware Upgrade file is sent to the HP LaserJet LJ5200 firmware for the engine and all connected accessories are upgraded.

Similar to Hewlett Packard providing improved software for your HP LJ5200, Hewlett Packard will be providing firmware update for your printer throughout its supported lifecycle. A firmware update may be necessary if it is determined that you may benefit from the resolution of any issue that is documented below labeled Fixes and Enhancement Hewlett Packard will be providing firmware updates for your HP LJ5200 printer throughout the support life of this product. These will be available on the HP support web site and other sources listed in the Readme file under
Determining the current version level of your firmware
To determine the current level of firmware installed on the device: For Multifunction Devices:
Go to the devices control panel.
Press the "Menu" button.
Press the "INFORMATION" selection on the touch screen control panel.
Press the "PRINT CONFIGURATION" selection to print the Configuration Page.
On the printed CONFIGURATION page look in the section marked "Device Information" for the firmware date code.
The firmware date code will look something like this: 20040322 07.000.0
For Single Function Devices:
Go to the devices control panel.
Press the green checkmark button.
Use the scroll keys and select the "INFORMATION" selection on the touch screen control panel.
Use the scroll keys and select the "PRINT CONFIGURATION" selection.
Press the green checkmark button to print the Configuration Page.
On the printed CONFIGURATION page look in the section marked "Device Information" for the firmware date code.
