Installation Instructions

Note: For Network Connections, please refer to the Setup Poster which shipped with your HP All-in-One for network setup and software installation instructions.

1. Click the Download button.
2. When a new pop-up window appears, click on the Save button.
3. Save the file in a desired location, perhaps a user-created C:/print software/ directory.

Note: Make sure the printer is not connected to the computer before running the file.

4. At the end of saving the file, run the file or go to the directory where the file was saved in order to run it. If security warnings are received, they may be caused by settings in the computer. Continue to run the file.

Note: File is compressed and may take time to expand and run.

5. Follow any on-screen instructions.

This download includes the HP Photosmart Software Suite (enhanced imaging features and product functionality) and Driver. If you only want the print driver (without the Photosmart Software Suite), it is available as a separate download named "HP Deskjet Basic Driver".

Note: This software is NOT intended for the HP Deskjet F2220 series products.

The HP XPS Printer Driver will work only with applications that support XPS Printing, such as the Windows Vista Photo Gallery. It uses Windows Color System (WCS) technology designed to improve quality and speed of color printing of documents with rich graphics.

Required: Install the following packages from Microsoft and reboot your computer:
Microsoft MSXML 6.0 Core Services
Microsoft XPS Essentials Pack
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86)
Follow these steps to download and install the Microsoft packages:
Visit www.microsoft.com.
Search for “Microsoft MSXML 6.0 Core Services” and select the search item called “Download details: Microsoft Core XML Services (MSXML) 6.0”.
Download and install the file called “msxml6.msi”.
Return to www.microsoft.com.
Search for “Microsoft XPS Essentials Pack” and select the search item called “Download details: XPS Essentials Pack Version 1.0”.
Download and install the file called “XPSEP Vista 32 bit.msu”.
Return to www.microsoft.com.
Search for “Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86)” and select the search item called “Download details: Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86)”.
Download and install the file called “vcredist_x86.exe”.
Reboot your computer.
Important! The HP XPS Printer Driver is only compatible with a direct connection to your printer, using a USB cable. Network functionality is not supported.

Installation Instructions

Ensure you have downloaded and installed the pre-requisite Microsoft packages and that you have rebooted your computer.
Ensure you have installed the HP Basic Driver or the HP Full Solution Software and Driver, using either your original CD or a package downloaded..
Download and extract the self-extracting HP XPS Driver package:
Click the Download Only button and a File Download box will appear.
Select Save and a Save As box will appear.
Select a directory to save the file in and click Save. Use a known location, such as “C:\HPDriver”.
After the download completes, click the Run button or double-click the downloaded executable to begin extraction.
Run Microsoft Add Printer Wizard from Printers folder
On the “Choose a local or network printer” screen, choose the “Add a local printer” option.
On the “Choose a printer port” screen, choose the “Use an existing port” option and select the correct USB port for your printer from the drop-down list (for example: “USB001(Virtual printer port for USB)”)
On the “Install the printer driver” screen, choose the “Have Disk…” option.
On the “Install from disk” screen, click the Browse button. In the filename field, type “%temp%” and click Open to navigate to your temp directory. In this directory, select the most recent folder that starts with “7Z” and click Open.
When you return to the “Install the printer driver” screen, select your printer from the list and click Next.
On the “Type a printer name” screen, click Next. The printer driver will install.
On the “You’ve successfully added…” screen, click Finish.
Note: The XPS Printer will be removed if the HP Full Solution Driver (step #2 above) is installed after you install the HP XPS Printer (step #4 above). Use the Add Printer Wizard to add your printer back manually. Follow the instructions in step #4.
