This software provides TWAIN drivers as an alternative to the HP photo and imaging software v2.3 scanning software that comes with the HP scanjet 4600 series of scanners.
These TWAIN drivers are an efficient way to gain access to TWAIN functionality. Many document management systems do not require all of the extended features included in the HP photo and imaging software v2.3.
Without these alternative TWAIN drivers, the entire HP photo and imaging software package must be installed in order to have access to a TWAIN driver. Moreover, alternative TWAIN drivers offer users a streamlined workflow for heavy document management and require less hard drive space for installation than HP photo and imaging scanning software.
Before installing and using the alternative TWAIN drivers, users should be aware that no user interface is supplied with the TWAIN drivers. In most cases the software used with these TWAIN drivers will control the scanning process and the results will be completely satisfactory.
However, it should be noted that some applications, like ScanSoft's PaperPort, rely heavily on the host scanner's TWAIN user interface to change settings such as resolution, color level and page size. Because of the lack of a user interface with these alternative TWAIN drivers, and thus no opportunity (except in some applications) to change the scan settings, this software will not be ideal for all customers.

This download is the full Windows software for HP Photo and Imaging software v2.3 for the HP Scanjet 4600 series of digital flatbed scanners.

When trying to TWAIN from Acrobat 6.0 (, ) you may get an error that prompts you to insert the HP software CD so needed files may be installed.
If you cancel out of the dialog, the scan proceeds normally. If you insert the CD and click "OK", problems such as system hangs or "Scanner not found" messages may occur. The defect may only show up randomly.
The exact text of the errors and the severity of related system problems vary from scanner to scanner.
If you don't have one of the full versions of Adobe Acrobat 6.0, you do not need this update. This problem does not affect scans using HP director even when Acrobat 6 is installed on the system.

This update will add Word 2003 and PowerPoint 2003 as selections in the "send to" list in HP's Photo and Imaging Scanning Software.
This is an updated version of the patch that fixes an issue that causes an invalid "administrative rights" error on some systems during install.
Unless you have Microsoft Office 2003, you do not need to install this update.

This update resolves a problem that causes loss of ReadIris (OCR) functionality when two different versions of HP photo and imaging software are installed on a system.
This problem may occur because the destinations component of the 4600c series software was released with an incorrect version number. If another HP product which also uses HP photo and imaging software (such as certain all-in-one or photosmart printers) gets installed, the destination component may get replaced by an older version.
This software will replace the destinations component with the correct version.
Unless you have multiple versions of HP photo and imaging installed and have developed loss of OCR functionality, you do not need to install this update.

This update restores missing icons and contents of HP Director screens which may not function properly after upgrading to Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.

This patch will resolve an Instant Share Application error on Windows XP systems that have Service Pack 2 installed.
Once the file is downloaded, double-click the file, and it will automatically decompress and execute.
It will place the patch files in the C:\Temp\ISPatch directory. Once the update has been installed, the C:\Temp\ISPatch directory can safely be deleted.
