1. Plug in the supplied power supply to the back of the Multiport hub and then plug the
power into an outlet.
2. Plug the B type connector into the Root port of the hub and plug the A type connector
into the USB port on your PC. Windows will detect the USB device.
3. Windows will also detect the General Purpose USB hub and the USB 232 adapter. You will
then see the Found New Hardware Wizard. Click next.
4. Click on Search for a suitable driver for my device (Recommended) and click next.
5. Insert the floppy diskette for the Multiport hub. Place a check mark next to floppy disk drives
and click next.
6. Windows will then search your hard drive and then the floppy drive. It will find the file,
a:\f5u103bd.inf. Click next.
7. Windows will then copy some files. Once the copying is complete, click finish.
8. Windows will then continue finding and installing the ports on the hub. You will no longer be
prompted to select anything during the rest of the installation.
9. To check to make sure all ports are installed properly, right click My Computer and click
Properties.
10. Click the Hardware tab and click Device Manager.
11. Click the (+) next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers. You should see, two entries for the
Belkin F5U103 USB-RS232 adapter, General Purpose USB Hub and USB Printing Support.
12. Click the (+) on Ports (COM & LPT). You will see two entries for Belkin F5U103 USB Serial
Port (COM#). NOTE: The ports assigned on your PC may be different than the ports shown
below because the COM ports for the Multiport Hub will be assigned to the next available COM
port on your PC, which is determined by your Operating System.

Installation
1. Insert the Windows 98 Installation diskette or CD ROM that shipped with the
Multiport hub into your floppy or CD ROM drive. Plug the AC adapter into the hub and
into an outlet.
2. Plug the USB B type connector into the root port on the rear of the hub.
3. Plug the A type connector into a free USB port on your computer. You will see the
Add New Hardware Wizard. Windows will detect and install the General Purpose USB
Hub without any prompts. Next Windows will find the USB-232 adapter. Make sure the
radio button for Automatic Search is selected. Click Next.
4. Windows will then search for the software. It will find the two files listed below.
Select the USB to Serial Converter A:\Serial\Win98\Belu2ser.Inf and click ok.
5. Once the necessary files for the USB to Serial Converter are copied, click finish.
6. Windows will find a USB Device. Make sure the radio button for Automatic search is
selected and click next.
7. Windows will find the two files listed below. Select the Belkin USB to Parallel Printer
A:\Parallel\Win98\F5U002.Inf and click ok.
8. Windows will copy necessary files for the Belkin USB Parallel Printer adapter V2.02.

1. After unzipping the files onto your hard drive, the path you will have to specify during installation will
be C:\F5U116. If you chose to unzip the files onto a 3 ˝ floppy disk, the installation path would be
A:2. When you plug in the adapter, Windows will find a new device, (if Windows does not find a new
device, follow the uninstall instructions first).
3. Windows will automatically install the USB Hub, and USB Printing Support drivers from the operating
system.
4. Windows will ask, What do you want the wizard to do? Choose, Install from a list or specific location
(advanced). Click next.
5. Choose the option, Include this location in the search: and type the path c:\F5U116 (or you can
browse to the C:\ and locate the folder that you unzipped the files to) and then click Next.
6. You will see a warning stating that the Belkin F5U116 USB-RS232 Adapter has not passed
Windows Logo testing, Continue Anyway. And click on Finish.
7. Windows will then find the Belkin F5U116 USB to Serial Port. Windows will ask, What do you want
the wizard to do? Choose, Install from a list or specific location (advanced). Click next.
8. Choose the option, Include this location in the search: and type the path c:\F5U116 (or you can
browse to the C:\ and locate the folder that you unzipped the files to) and then click Next.
9. You will see a warning stating that the Belkin F5U116 USB to Serial Port has not passed Windows
Logo testing, Continue Anyway. And click on Finish.
10. In order to check the installation and the COM port number for this adapter, go to Start, and right
click on My Computer and left click on properties. Click on the Hardware tab and then click on the
Device Manager button. Click on the plus sign next to Ports (COM & LPT). Under this heading you
should see a Belkin F5U116 USB Serial port with a number. This would be the number that you
would choose in your application. If you do not see the COM port or if there is an unknown or USB
device with a question or exclamation mark, proceed to the un-installation instructions.
