ECP Mode Must be ON! (Extended Capabilities Port)
If you plan to connect your HP OfficeJet or HP Printer/Scanner/Copier to your PC via the PC's parallel port, your computer's parallel port must be set to ECP mode to operate properly under Windows 2000. ECP mode allows greater I/O (communications) capabilities through your parallel port and is enabled via the computer's BIOS. Restart your PC, and in most cases, you will be prompted to hit F1, F2, or DEL to Enter your computer's BIOS or "Setup" program. (Check your PC's documentation or vendor's web site for more info).
Once you have entered SETUP, locate the configuration section for your PARALLEL PORT and modify it to read ECP. If ECP is not a choice, use a variation of ECP, such as ECP & EPP, or ECP DMA1. Save changes and reboot. Windows 2000 should recognize this and list the Item ECP Printer port in the Device Manager of the Control Panel/System applet under "Ports". If your PC does not support ECP, it will likely fall below the minimum system requirements for Windows 2000. It is also recommended that you install Microsoft Service Pack 1 for Windows 2000.

Scanning to e-mail with America on-line 7.0.
The following patch allows documents or images to be scanned into an AOL email file using the HP OfficeJet Scan-To-Email function. The image can then be sent to anyone that has an e-mail account.
Which files are upgraded by this patch:
hpoprp05.exe
hposci05.exe
hpostr05.exe
hpovwr05.exe
For Microsoft Internet Explorer users:

Click on "Download"
Choose the option "Save this program to disk."
Click OK.
You will now be prompted for the location on your hard drive where you would like to save the program. Save the program to your hard drive, making sure to note the drive and directory where the patch gets copied.
After downloading, locate the patch file on your hard drive, "HpOjTAOL7.exe", and run it.
Follow the install instructions that appear on the screen.
The PC may need to be rebooted before the updated files take affect.
For Netscape users:

Click on "Download"
Choose the option "Save to disk."

The following patch allows an image to be scanned into an AOL email file using the HP OfficeJet Manager Scan-To-Email button. The image can then be sent to anyone that has an AOL account. Only users of AOL will have the capability of viewing the image. To send images to non-AOL users, simply scan and save an image to the hard drive, then send that image as an attachment.
We are currently looking into a resolution for AOL to non-AOL customers.
This software provides you: The ability to utilize the Scan to email function in the OfficeJet T Series Director you can scan documents or pictures directly into your email as an attachment.

Downloading Instructions:
Close all applications that are running.
Click on the Download to download the file.
For Netscape users:

Click on the Download to download the file.
Once the file has completed the download process, you will be prompted for the location on your hard drive where you would like to save the program (placing it on the desktop is recommended).
Follow the installation instructions to install the program on your system.
Restart the computer when finished.
For Microsoft Internet Explorer users:

Click on the Download to download the file.
Run this program from its current location If you choose this option, the file will begin to download immediately into a temporary folder on your system. You should be able to use it as soon as the download process is completed.
Save the program to disk
If you choose this option, you will be prompted for the location on your hard drive where you would like to save the program. Once the program has been installed on your system, you do not need to save the hpojtaol.exe file.
Complete the installation/save instructions as soon as you have selected one of the above options.
Restart your computer when finished.

NOTE:
IMPORTANT: Start with Step A, and complete the steps in order.
STEP A: UNINSTALL prior Officejet software and POWER OFF your Officejet.
Click Start, click All Programs, point to HP Officejet, and then click Uninstall Software.
POWER OFF your Officejet and leave it powered off until the installation program prompts you to power it on.
Restart your computer.
STEP B: Confirm that ECP (Extended Capabilities Port) Mode is enabled.
Your computer's parallel port must be set to ECP mode, which allows greater communications capabilities through the parallel port. Perform the following steps to confirm that ECP mode is enabled:

Click Start and then click My Computer.
Under Tasks, click View System Information to display the System Properties page.
Click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
Double-click on Ports (COM & LPT). If you see "ECP Printer Port (LPT1)" listed under Ports, ECP mode is enabled and you can proceed to Step C.
STEP C: Install the Officejet Software for Windows XP
During installation, Windows will display screens recommending that you stop installation because the Officejet software has not passed Windows Logo testing. Hewlett-Packard has tested this Officejet product with Windows XP and verified compatibility, click Continue Anyway.
Download the Officejet software located below.
Double-click on the downloaded file to unpack the installation files and click Finish to accept the default Installation Folder. If you are reinstalling the Officejet software, you may get an Overwrite Protection warning. If so, click "Yes to All" to proceed with the installation.
When the HP Officejet Essentials screen appears, click Install and follow the prompts that appear on the screen.
When prompted to do so, power on the HP Officejet and make sure it is connected to your computer.
In a few moments, several Found New Hardware Wizard screens will appear. Accept the recommended action on each screen by clicking Next or Finish to continue. If the Found New Hardware Wizard screens do not appear, restart your computer.
When the HP Officejet Fax Setup Wizard appears, provide the requested information.
Click Print Test Page to verify that your installation was successful.
Click View the ReadMe File for important information about what is supported.
