Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 Installation Instructions:
Turn off the HP OfficeJet and unplug the USB cable.
Uninstall the previously version of the software (Click Start, click All Programs, point to HP Officejet, and then click Uninstall Software )
Temporarily disable antivirus software.
Exit any running applications, games, utilities, multimedia applications.
Run the downloaded .exe file, then follow the screen directions presented during software installation.
For a successful install you will see a "Software Copied" screen with a prompt to "follow the instructions on your Setup Poster to set up your HP Officejet hardware."
Click "Next" on the "Software Copied" screen.
If a request to reboot dialog appears, Select [yes] to restart the computer.
Turn on your HP Officejet and connect the USB cable.
After the Add New Hardware dialogs, an "Install HP software" dialog will appear.
Select [next]. NOTE: The ReadIris application and HP instant support are not included with the Web download. Wait for the HP software to start and the Fax Setup Wizard to appear.
Complete the Fax Setup Wizard and E-reg.
When "Congratulations" appears, Select [skip tour].
See the Readme file or onscreen user guide for information on the new HP PhotoView Center application included with this software.
Upon completing the software installation enable the antivirus software.

Description:
This patch is for users running Windows 2000 with a G, V, K, or PSC 700 Series OfficeJet connected to the PC by USB cable. To apply this patch, the user must have Administrator-level access rights for the PC that exhibits the symptom described below.
Symptom:
Under Windows 2000, after a PC comes out of "Stand by" or "Hibernate" mode, the OfficeJet does not reconnect. This prevents users from accessing through software the Scan and Fax functions until a reboot is performed.
What this software accomplishes:
After the PC revives from "Stand by" or "Hibernate" mode, the OfficeJet will make the proper reconnections. Scanning and Faxing functions will work normally. Some minor are also included to make the software more robust.
NOTE: This patch should be applied to K-series software version 1.16 or earlier.

Description:
Under certain network configurations, HP OfficeJet software may generate large numbers of OpenPrinter calls, which generates unresolved open pipes on the network print server. These open pipes, due to their large number, may eventually crash the print server.
The V-series OfficeJet software may also create excessive traffic on a network.
Symptom:
The print server crashes periodically and network analysis discovers a large number of open pipes on print server. At least one HP OfficeJet printer is connected locally to a PC and the PC maintains at least one connection to a network printer.
The network shows loss of bandwidth and subsequent analysis of network traffic indicates a significant number of frames originate with HP software. At least one HP OfficeJet printer is connected locally to a PC and the PC maintains at least one connection to a network printer. What this software patch accomplishes:
Significantly reduces the number of open pipes generated by the V-series software.
Significantly reduces the amount of network traffic generated by the V-series software.

IMPORTANT NOTE to Windows 2000 USERS: If you experience the "Open Pipes" symptoms on your network, Microsoft's Service Pack 3 (SP3) for Windows 2000, when it becomes publicly available, this problem. However, SP3 will not reduce V-series network traffic. The HP patch provided on this page reduces open pipes and reduces network packets created by the V-series software.

This patch repairs a USB communications defect that has been discovered on the newer faster personal computers. The problem is most pronounced on PC's using the SIS chipset and operating at speeds greater then 1.0 Giga Hertz, on Windows XP. Instances of this problem have also been seen on Windows 2000. Installing this patch will not damage in any way the operation of the HP driver on slower PC's.

The driver's Status Application must be active after the device is powered on for the patch to take affect on the device. The Status Application does not have to be currently running, but it must have run at least once since the last time the device was powered on.

HP OfficeJet V Series Software AOL 8 Fix for Windows 98, 98SE, and ME:
This utility has the following additional requirements:
It will only operate correctly under Windows 98, 98 SE, and ME.
It will NOT work on Windows 2000, XP Home, or XP Professional, or the Macintosh OS's.
This patch will only work with hp officejet V series drivers older then version 3.00 such as:
version 1.1.0 (a11.10.24)
This patch will NOT work on the driver version 3.00 or newer.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
NOTE: This is not a self-installing patch. It requires the user to manually replace the original file with this new one.
Download the file, hpoaol07.exe to a local drive. Make note where (in which folder) the file gets copied.
In Windows Explorer (or by some equivalent means) go to the folder where hpoaol07.exe was copied, right click on "hpoaol07.exe" and select "copy"
Browse to the location of the old installed hpoaol07.exe file. The default is: C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\hp officejet V series\bin
Right-click on this folder and select "Paste"
When the "Confirm File Replace" dialog appears, confirm that the replacement file is newer and then select [yes].
Manual installation is complete.
