Under certain network configurations, HP OfficeJet software may generate large numbers of OpenPrinter calls, which generates unresolved open pipes on the network print server. These open pipes, due to their large number, may eventually crash the print server.
The V-series OfficeJet software may also create excessive traffic on a network.
Symptom:
The print server crashes periodically and network analysis discovers a large number of open pipes on print server. At least one HP OfficeJet printer is connected locally to a PC and the PC maintains at least one connection to a network printer.
The network shows loss of bandwidth and subsequent analysis of network traffic indicates a significant number of frames originate with HP software. At least one HP OfficeJet printer is connected locally to a PC and the PC maintains at least one connection to a network printer. What this software patch accomplishes:
Significantly reduces the number of open pipes generated by the V-series software.
Significantly reduces the amount of network traffic generated by the V-series software.

Downloading Instructions:
For Microsoft Internet Explorer users:
Click on "Download"
Choose the option "Save this program to disk."
Click OK.
You will now be prompted for the location on your hard drive where you would like to save the program. Save the program to your hard drive, making sure to note the drive and directory where the patch gets copied.
After downloading, locate the patch file "HpOV_NetworkTraffic.exe" on your hard drive and run it.
Follow the install instructions that appear on the screen.
When installation completes, RESTART THE PC.
For Netscape users:
Click on "Download"
Choose the option "Save to disk."
Click OK.

IMPORTANT NOTE to Windows 2000 USERS: If you experience the "Open Pipes" symptoms on your network, Microsoft's Service Pack 3 (SP3) for Windows 2000, when it becomes publicly available, this problem. However, SP3 will not reduce V-series network traffic. The HP patch provided on this page reduces open pipes and reduces network packets created by the V-series software.
