This download is the full Windows software for HP Photo and Imaging software v. 2.5 for the HP Scanjet 5590 digital flatbed scanner.
However, this download does not contain any third party software.
NOTE: This is an extremely large file (nearly 200mb) that, depending on your connection type and speed, may take many hours to download.

This update will resolve a problem when scanning duplex (2 sided) scans when logged into a Windows XP or Windows 2000 computer as a Limited User.
You must have the HP Commercial driver installed prior to running this update.

This is a new version of the alternative minimal TWAIN that has digitally signed drivers. The previous version, posted in September 2004 did not include a digitally signed driver. Otherwise, the two software packages are the same.
This software provides TWAIN drivers as an alternative to the HP Image Zone software that comes with the HP Scanjet 5590 digital flatbed scanner.
These TWAIN drivers are an efficient way to gain access to TWAIN functionality. Many document management systems do not require all of the extended features included in the HP Image Zone software.
Without these alternative TWAIN drivers, the entire HP Image Zone software package must be installed in order to have access to a TWAIN driver. Moreover, alternative TWAIN drivers offer users a streamlined workflow for heavy document management and require less hard drive space for installation than HP Image Zone software.
The 5590 supports duplex (double-sided) ADF scanning, but does not have a duplex switch. Simplex/duplex is selected using a popup window. The popup window is English-only.
In Windows XP, this driver also provides full WIA support. That support is the same as for HP's standard driver.
Because of the lack of a robust user interface with these alternative TWAIN drivers, and thus only limited opportunity (except in some applications) to change the scan settings, this software will not be ideal for all customers.
Once you have downloaded the file, double-click on it. The file will self-extract to a c:\col9082 folder and automatically launch the software setup. Once the setup is complete, the files in that folder can be safely deleted.
